FAQ

RIDER COMMITMENT?

Riders must be able to commit 4 hours/week for weekly lessons and workouts, with 8 weeks of lessons each semester. Our competitions are held over 4 weekends throughout the school year, and riders must be able to attend most of these (accommodations can be arranged in the case of academic conflicts). We also encourage riders to find extra riding opportunities outside of the team.

WHAT ARE THE TYPICAL COSTS?

The yearly cost for team members is ~$2500, but varies depending on fundraising and roster size. This covers the membership fees, coaching, transportation, and horse show fees. Please contact us if costs may be an issue.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE FROM THE OCEA TEAM?

The IHSA team is a recognized competitive sports club with the University of Guelph. While the competitions run the same with host schools providing the horses, OCEA shows are only one day and are in Ontario. The IHSA team travels to New York and riders have the chance to qualify for regionals, zones and IHSA Nationals each year.

DO I NEED MY OWN HORSE?

No! We ride lesson horses that change week to week to make sure riders are able to ride many different types of horses.

HOW MANY RIDERS ARE ON THE TEAM ROSTER?

We typically have 12-16 riders on the team each year.

WHEN IS THE YEARLY TEAM ROSTER POSTED?

Results of tryouts are typically posted on our social media during the second or third week of September. For more information on tryouts visit "Tryouts" page.

DO I NEED MY OWN CAR?

No! We arrange rides to and from lessons and horse shows based on who is able to drive.
